Reports emerging from Gaza paint a grim picture of Israeli forces allegedly subjecting dozens of Palestinian men to severe human rights violations, further intensifying global concerns. Disturbing footage reveals that the men were stripped of their clothes before being detained, with eyewitnesses claiming at least seven were shot dead for not complying with orders quickly enough. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor disclosed that the victims, including doctors, academics, journalists, and seniors, were rounded up from homes and schools sheltering displaced families in the northern Gaza Strip.
One of the identified individuals among the detainees is Diaa al-Kahlout, a journalist for Al Araby Al Jadeed. Israeli troops reportedly stormed schools in Beit Lahia where displaced families sought refuge, with footage showing snipers positioning themselves on rooftops and the aftermath of alleged fatalities in the school courtyards. While the authenticity of the footage could not be independently verified, it has sparked widespread condemnation.
The Euro-Mediterranean monitor reported that Israeli soldiers forcibly evacuated schools, arresting men while allowing women and children to flee on foot. Subsequently, troops went door-to-door in some neighborhoods, removing residents, arresting men, and reportedly setting homes ablaze. The detained men were allegedly subjected to arbitrary arrests, beatings, and the distressing act of stripping them of their clothes.
Video footage circulating on Israeli Telegram pages depicted the men blindfolded, hands tied, and stripped of their clothes, raising alarm about potential war crimes. The Geneva-based human rights group emphasized that these actions constitute severe human rights abuses and condemned the arbitrary arrests and beatings by soldiers. The images and videos depict an alarming violation of the detainees’ dignity and rights.
While the Israeli military has not immediately commented on the mass arrests, some Israeli media have suggested the possibility that the men are Hamas operatives, offering no further details. In response, Osama Hamdan, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, categorically denied mass arrests of the group’s members. Hamdan likened the situation to “Nazi concentration camps” and asserted that the footage revealed the “arrest and abuse of unarmed civilians who have nothing to do with military operations.” The international community is now intensifying calls for an independent investigation into these alleged human rights abuses in Gaza.
