On Easter Sunday—April 5th—President Donald Trump shared an out-of-the-box Easter message to the press regarding the rescue of U.S. airmen in Iran. According to Trump, the rescue was an “Easter miracle.” His officials have also tied the rescue to symbols of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. 

Most Easter Sunday messages from past presidents contained words of encouragement and peace, with some even including Passover messages that highlighted the diversity of the country. Trump’s message deviated from these sentiments. According to M.S. Now, Trump stated on social media, “…you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!…Praise be to Allah.” In comparison to past presidential messages, these words are quite inflammatory. Some Trump administration officials demonstrate similar feelings regarding the rescue’s connection to Easter. Trump’s Secretary of State Scott Bessent shared on X, “The Easter miracle is considered the greatest victory in history. And so, it [is] fitting on this holiest of Christian days that a brave American warrior was rescued from behind enemy lines in one of the greatest search and rescue missions in military history,” (Reuters).  

Both Trump’s Easter message and his officials’ sentiments display the somewhat pessimistic perspective of the Trump administration. The importance of the holiday should be to strive for peace, especially considering the U.S. conflicts of the past year. The Trump administration’s message to the country emphasizes war over peace, which is the wrong direction for the country. The United States is a dominating world power, and President Trump has attempted to be a mediator in many world conflicts. However, his message does not reflect mediation values. 

Trump’s Easter message came after the United States rescued its airmen from Iran. Their jet was shot down, forcing the airmen to eject and become stranded for two days in the Iranian mountains. Because the Iranian Guard provides a strong offense to U.S. forces, the rescue was tedious. 

The war in Iran is ongoing. Many opinions, from both inside and outside the United States, have called for a ceasefire. However, currently, President Trump is not backing down on his attacks on the Iranian civilization, which will leave a strong imprint on world conflict for years to come.
